No longer does the laboratory component of this course require substantial year-long floor space. The entire laboratory curriculum has been redesigned to use equipment designed and fabricate in-house. This equipment is able to be stored in a closet and easily setup and utilized in a just-in-time fashion. The curriculum has been modified and improved based off of research in engineering education and student feedback. This thesis describes the method of applying a product development approach to instructional design. It also contains the curriculum, assessment methods, and results of implementing the curriculum. date: 2009-09-25 date_type: completed institution: University of Pittsburgh refereed: TRUE etdcommittee_type: committee_chair etdcommittee_type: committee_member etdcommittee_type: committee_member etdcommittee_name: Budny, Daniel etdcommittee_name: Koubaa, Amir etdcommittee_name: Casson, Leonard etdcommittee_email: budny@pitt.edu etdcommittee_email: amk59@pitt.edu etdcommittee_email: casson@pitt.edu etdcommittee_id: BUDNY etdcommittee_id: AMK59 etdcommittee_id: CASSON etd_defense_date: 2009-04-01 etd_approval_date: 2009-09-25 etd_submission_date: 2009-03-20 etd_access_restriction: immediate etd_patent_pending: FALSE assigned_doi: doi:10.5195/pitt.etd.2011.6537 thesis_type: thesis degree: MSCE committee: Daniel Budny (budny@pitt.edu) - Committee Chair committee: Amir Koubaa (amk59@pitt.edu) - Committee Member committee: Leonard Casson (casson@pitt.edu) - Committee Member etdurn: etd-03202009-111803 other_id: http://etd.library.pitt.edu/ETD/available/etd-03202009-111803/ other_id: etd-03202009-111803 citation: Torick, David Andrew (2009) Product Development Meets Instructional Design- A Case Study in the Redesign of a Fundamentals of Fluids Course.
