%X Despite available preventatives and treatments rabies virus is still a major health threat around the world. In the United States and other developed nations, the prevalence of the virus has decreased substantially since implementation of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) protocols. However, rabies remains a significant threat to public health in developing nations that do not have the resources to sufficiently combat against the rabies virus and are losing a dangerous fight. Rabies virus is a special public health problem because anyone can be at risk. This essay reviews the primary and secondary prevention strategies for rabies and contrasts public health interventions internationally, with specific emphasis on the challenging nature of establishing comprehensive rabies prevention programs in developing nations. Next. This essay will explore the differing approaches by states to control rabies domestically. Finally, the essay will make context-specific recommendations for rabies control. The public health significance of this essay is to represent the glaring differences between developing nations and how they combat the rabies virus and compare that to developed nations and their fight against the virus.
