These psychosocial health conditions interact to form a syndemic which may be driving HIV risk within this population. However MSM also evidence great resilience to both the effects of adversity and the effects of syndemics. Investigating and harnessing these natural strengths and resiliencies may enhance HIV prevention and intervention programs thereby providing the additional effectiveness needed to reverse the trends in HIV infection among MSM. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media. date: 2011-04-01 date_type: published publication: AIDS and Behavior volume: 15 number: SUPPL. refereed: TRUE issn: 1090-7165 centers: cen_other_lgbthealth id_number: 10.1007/s10461-011-9895-0 pmid: 21344306 mesh_headings: HIV Infections--prevention & control mesh_headings: HIV Infections--psychology mesh_headings: HIV Infections--transmission mesh_headings: Health Knowledge, Attitudes, Practice mesh_headings: Health Services Needs and Demand mesh_headings: Homosexuality, Male--psychology mesh_headings: Humans mesh_headings: Intervention Studies mesh_headings: Male mesh_headings: Prejudice mesh_headings: Resilience, Psychological mesh_headings: Sexually Transmitted Diseases--prevention & control citation: Herrick, AL and Lim, SH and Wei, C and Smith, H and Guadamuz, T and Friedman, MS and Stall, R (2011) Resilience as an untapped resource in behavioral intervention design for gay men.
